Google last week released an incredibly sophisticated promotion of attacking iPhones and stealing data that has been personally, uniquely identifiable for years. The company only said that the iPhones were affected and that it notified Apple of personal vulnerability in February of this year. Apple has sustained the weaknesses within days after becoming aware of it. However, it has now become public that the Chinese government launched an attack specifically aimed at ethnic minority Uighur ethnic groups, and Android and Windows-based devices were also damaged.
As Google published in a lengthy blog post, the attacks were run using a maliciously modified website. Users visiting these websites were automatically infected with the iPhone and personal data, including a combination of passwords, photos, text messages, and GPS, was compromised, according to Google. The company did not say whether it was aware of a similar attack against its own Android mobile operating system and Windows-based PCs during the same period.
Google described the evidence from its groups as "evidence that a group has been making a concerted effort to hack iPhone users in specific communities for at least two years", though it could not identify the attackers or the targeted ones.
TechCrunch and Forbes reported that it was the Chinese government targeted by the Uyghur tribe, and many more attacked similar websites, which infected the device indiscriminately.
TechCrunch quoted another anonymous source saying that the US FBI has launched its own investigation into the attack and contacted Google to list the malicious websites to prevent further outbreaks. It is not yet clear which websites were affected and how many people were infected.
Microsoft said in a statement to Forbes that Google did not report any such invention, as it said it had told Apple. Google has not yet acknowledged that Android is targeted. Apple has not released any statement or comment on the release.
