Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s Account Hacked, Offensive and Racist Tweets Posted |TechNews

  • Dorsey's @jack account has published a stream of obscene tweets
  • "Intel has a bomb on Twitter HQ," read a tweet
  • The hack was performed using the platform's Tweet-Through-SMS feature
  • Twitter has been abusing tweets on the @jack account for less than an hour before removing them.
The account of Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey was hacked on Friday, showing the potential vulnerability of even the most high-profile social media accounts.

More than a dozen tweets and streams of porn, including pornography, screams, threats and racial slugs have been released to Dorsey's @jack account from Friday afternoon. Less than an hour after the tweets were removed, the tweets remained in the account, which has 4.2 million followers.

"Intel is a bomb on Twitter HQ," read a tweet. "Shout out to Ron and Kyle," said another. Many of the tweets were tagged in #ChucklingHella.

The company said in a tweet on Friday evening that the phone number associated with Dorsey's account was "compromised because of a mobile provider's security oversight." The hacker was then able to use the phone number to compose and send tweets via text message using the platform's Tweet-via-SMS feature.

Twitter said the issue was resolved, and there was no indication of a compromise on their system.

In a statement, a Twitter spokeswoman added that the agency was watching the bomb threat and "could confirm that it was not credible." The accounts specified by the hacker seemed to be suspended on Friday afternoon when the @jack took control
Dorsey's account was previously compromised by the hacking group OurMine in 2016. On Friday, some Twitter users said that Dorsey's account had been hacked with access to his account through a third party.

The event raises questions about the vulnerability of even high-profile accounts to one of the world's largest social media companies. Other high-profile accounts - such as Dorsey's account - should have been held as a clear target. Political leaders, including President Donald Trump, use this platform to share news and opinions. If compromised, a hacker can use it to make political claims or try to start a war.

Why there were so many abusive tweets, including abusive language and even a Nazi retweet, was still up for grabs. Already boasting tools to quickly catch content that violates Twitter policy.

The hack also comes at a time when social media companies are under intense public pressure to implement more effective content-monitoring methods. Platforms have struggled to balance policing extremism and hate speech - like the content posted by Dorsey's hacked account - by creating a forum for free expression.
In June, Twitter announced that it would begin labeling rules-breaking tweets from national political figures, including President Donald Trump, which said in a message: "Twitter rules about abusive behavior apply to these tweets, but Twitter has determined that tweets may be available. Is in the public interest. "

On Friday, several Twitter users jokingly noted that the hacked @jack account had this message pinned on its profile: "We promise Twitter to increase the collective health, openness and public speaking skills, and to hold the public accountable for progress."
